"Chorus: repeat" obvious pleading and reminiscing over a girl who totally frigin rocked his world like never before.Īt the end of this chorus comes the break: dude nothing sucks more than public humiliation! ouch. i get from the second line "moving in line" that she has already blown him off and she is in some sort of line maybe with some other guy to get into a show or something and wont give him the time of day and lashes out at him while he is trying to reason with her because deep down inside she's really embaraced but feels the need to save her own face in front of the new guy. Moving in line then you look back in time to your first day"Ĭlearly they are to the point in the relationship where the novelty is gone, she is bored and looking for an excuse for it to be over, "has a bad day", lashes out and tells him i knew this wouldn't work from the start. "Making believe this is what you conceived from your worst day It's a given thing - what a terrible thing to lose"Ĭlearly he is pleading her to not take what they have for granted for it would be a "terrible" loss "It's a livin' thing - it's a terrible thing to lose he's reminiscing of his early memories of how it was. the work "took" in this sentence already clues you into the fact that he is looking back as in past tense. I believe this to be the girl he is talking to his new love. "And you, and your sweet desire, You took me, higher and higher" its like catching a wave, awkward, clumsy and unpredictable but completely thrilling. Obviously this is referring to the thrill and excitement of new love well depicted with these words. Rollin' and ridin' and slippin' & slidin' - It's magic" "Sailin' away on the crest of a wave - It's like magic but after studying up on this song a few hours and really trying to understand what the lyrics were actually saying (so i could picture it in my head while im playing it) (it helps me remember) and then reading what some of you guys were saying - i had to chime in, and here is my take. In the past several years i've made it my personal quest to learn the correct lyrics (and chords) to songs so i can perform them, and having a look at this song and remembering the vibe of that time (i was 13) i can remember how this song just sent you sailing with the air between the chords and the ever so spanish conquistador-ish violin solos. lots of tomatoes, yeah we got lots of tomatoes". when i was a kid i used to sing along to a song that i believed the chorus to be "lots of tomatoes - yeah we got lots of tomatoes. In all fairness - i first need to say that i suck when it comes to hearing the lyrics of songs. like they say - "out of the mouths of babes". My Interpretationokay, enough of all the hoopla, IMO the 17yo who is fresh to this music and hasn't been bombarded with all the garbage that most of us have from that era i think has the right take on this song. It's a bad dream (I'm taking, I'm taking) Oh, so let her go don't start spoiling the show Takin' a dive 'cause you can't halt the slide

To the first day (I'm taking, I'm taking) Oh, moving in line then you look back in time Making believe this is what you conceived Oh, rollin' and ridin' and slippin' and slidin'
